BURNITT, Harry b. Knottingley 1865, 022479, Hull 1892 - vol.44 1892-1895; vol.59 1896-1903; vol.74 1904-1911

"Harry married Sarahetta PARISH on 19 Jan 1895. He was described as "mate on a steamboat" on the marriage certificate and his address was given as Fearnley Green, Knottingley. His wife Sarahetta was a daughter of John PARISH, a ship's carpenter. The three children of this marriage, Harry, Etta and Sidney, were all born at Marsh End , Knottingley - according to their birth certificates - but some time after 1901 the family moved to Hartlepool in County Durham, where Harry Snr. continued his career as a seaman. He worked for the Pool Shipping Company, part of the Ropner Group of companies, and it was upon one of this company's ships, the Clearpool, that Harry died after a heart attack on 1 Feb 1916. He was buried at sea off the coast of Minorca - his death certificate gives the position of the ship as 39.28' N, 5.0' E. His family continued to live at Hartlepool after Harry's death - his widow Sarahetta died there in 1957 and was living with daughter Etta at the time."
